Halo: A Legendary SeriesPublished by forahobby on Monday, August 16, 2021 Tagged: Gaming, If Nintendo has Mario, and PlayStation has Uncharted, then the most iconic game of the Xbox platform must be Halo. This was a game that would eventually become known as the definitive first-person shooter and many of those that exist today can thank Halo for their success. The first two installments of the game garnered a massive following and many praised their gameplay, music, and story. When the third and arguably best installment was released in 2007, it was grasped by a world in love with Halo, and even then, it managed to defy expectations and become one of the best games of all time.
As Halo is the standout game from the Xbox line-up, it makes sense that Microsoft would want to pump as much money into the series as possible. This is arguably what allowed the series to keep evolving and get better every year. The multiplayer of Halo is what sold the game for many though and many gamers should have fond memories of playing through the campaign of these games at their best friend’s house. This was the golden era of gaming and the use of split-screen in games was high as there was no Xbox Live to play against people online. Now that online gaming is a massive feature in most games, the split-screen feature has dwindled, meaning the future generations will not get to experience some of the amazing moments that come with gaming side by side with a friend. In the US, Halo 3 sits as the best-selling Halo game of all time, and for good reason too. It concludes the epic story set in motion by the first game and many consider it to be the last great Halo game. Halo 3 saw the creators of the franchise, Bungie, depart from their IP to work on Destiny, a looter shooter that has its roots in the Halo engine. This allowed 343 Industries to take up the mantle, but every installment since has been met with a lukewarm reception. Many believe that Halo is inherently Bungie at heart, and much of the qualities that make the original games great are not present in the newest editions. This looks set to change though, as 343 Industries are preparing to release their newest, and perhaps last installment of the game.
Halo Infinite is thought by many to be the last chance for Halo to recoup the legendary status that it had gained throughout the golden age of gaming. Although first looks are promising, it remains to be seen whether fans will attach themselves to in the way they did with Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and Halo 3. In the meantime, fans have been treated to a remaster of the series in the form of the Master Chief Collection, which many turned to during lockdown, though others played online games at the best casinos. Fans will be eagerly waiting for the release of the newest game in hopes that Halo will become a dominant name in gaming once again. They will have to wait until this Holiday to find out whether this notion will become real or is just a fantasy.
